Morocco's General Directorate of Taxes (DGI) has awarded a cybersecurity contract to the telecommunications operator Medi Telecom. The agreement, announced in March 2026, is part of the DGI's efforts to strengthen the security of its information systems against a rising number of cyberattacks targeting government institutions.
The contract was formalized by DGI Director General Noureddine Bensouda and Medi Telecom's CEO, Abdelhakim El Hassani. The partnership aims to implement advanced security solutions to protect sensitive fiscal data and ensure the continuity of the DGI's digital services for citizens and businesses.
This move follows a series of cyber incidents affecting Moroccan public services. In late 2025, a significant cyberattack disrupted several government websites, highlighting vulnerabilities. The DGI's initiative with Medi Telecom is seen as a proactive step to safeguard critical national infrastructure.
The specific value and technical scope of the contract were not publicly disclosed. Medi Telecom, a subsidiary of the multinational group Orange, will leverage its expertise in telecommunications and digital services to execute the security project for the tax administration.
