Morocco holds substantial reserves of phosphate, which is essential for lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries, a key technology for electric vehicles. The IEA report highlights that Morocco could leverage its mining and processing capabilities to become a hub for refining and manufacturing battery components.
However, the IEA also notes challenges, including the need for significant investment in sustainable mining practices and processing technologies. The agency emphasizes that Morocco's success will depend on its ability to attract foreign investment and implement environmental safeguards.
