As part of Operation Marhaba 2026, Morocco's Tanger Med port is experiencing a surge in passenger traffic, prompting ferry operator DFDS to adjust its operations. The annual initiative facilitates the summer travel of Moroccans residing abroad, with hundreds of thousands passing through the port.
DFDS, which operates the Tanger Med–Algeciras route, has implemented a reinforced schedule to accommodate the increased flow. The company stated that it has added extra sailings and optimized turnaround times to reduce congestion and waiting periods for travelers.
According to port authorities, Tanger Med handled over 3 million passengers during the peak summer months in previous years. For 2026, the port has coordinated with DFDS and other operators to ensure smooth processing, including expanded check-in facilities and enhanced border control procedures.
Travelers are advised to arrive early and check real-time schedules, as high demand may lead to temporary adjustments. The operation is expected to continue through mid-September, aligning with the return of the Moroccan diaspora.
