Morocco is moving to legally frame the digitization of its healthcare system with Bill 52.26, which establishes a 'National Integrated Health Information System' (SNIIS). The bill aims to connect all public and private health establishments, enabling secure sharing of patient data and improving care coordination.
According to official sources, the system will include a unique patient identifier, electronic health records, and interoperability standards. The Ministry of Health stated that the law is designed to enhance data security and patient privacy, while facilitating epidemiological surveillance and health policy planning.
The bill also mandates that health professionals and facilities adopt certified digital tools. Penalties for non-compliance or data breaches are included. The government expects the system to reduce medical errors, avoid redundant tests, and streamline administrative processes.
As of July 2026, the bill is under parliamentary review. No date for final adoption has been announced. The project is part of Morocco's broader digital transformation strategy, supported by international partners including the World Bank.
