Morocco has earmarked a record 73 billion dirhams (MMDH) for the construction and public works (BTP) sector in 2026, according to official budget documents. This funding is part of the country's efforts to accelerate major infrastructure projects, including ports, highways, and social housing.
The increased budget comes as the government pushes forward with its National Infrastructure Plan, which aims to modernize transportation networks and boost economic competitiveness. Key projects include the expansion of the Casablanca port and the high-speed rail line connecting Tangier to Marrakech.
In response to this ambitious agenda, industry stakeholders are reorganizing to better structure the ecosystem. The Moroccan Federation of Construction and Public Works (FNBTP) has announced new initiatives to improve training, digitalization, and access to financing for small and medium-sized enterprises in the sector.
Experts note that the sector faces challenges such as rising material costs and a shortage of skilled labor. However, the record budget signals strong government commitment to sustaining growth in construction, which accounts for about 5% of the country's GDP.
