Morocco is on the verge of a major strategic milestone in the modernization of its naval arsenal. The Royal Moroccan Navy is expected to receive its first Avante 1800 warship, likely in July 2026, according to defense sources.
The Avante 1800 is a multi-role corvette designed by Spanish shipbuilder Navantia. It is equipped with advanced sensors and weapon systems, enhancing Morocco's maritime surveillance and defense capabilities in the Atlantic and Mediterranean.
This acquisition is part of a broader effort by Morocco to upgrade its naval fleet, which includes previous purchases of frigates and patrol vessels. The new corvette will support missions such as anti-piracy, search and rescue, and territorial waters protection.
Navantia has confirmed the construction of the vessel at its shipyards in Spain, with delivery scheduled for mid-2026. The contract, signed in 2021, also includes technology transfer and training for Moroccan crews.
