Morocco's government has adopted a draft decree for a new biometric passport, according to a statement from the Government Council meeting on Thursday, July 9, 2026. The project aims to enhance document security and reflect Morocco's diverse identity.
Minister Delegate for Relations with Parliament, Government Spokesperson Mustapha Baitas, stated that the new passport will incorporate advanced security features to prevent forgery and fraud. The design will also showcase Morocco's cultural heritage and modern aspirations.
The initiative aligns with global standards for biometric travel documents, including the use of a microchip storing the holder's facial image and fingerprints. The new passport is expected to be rolled out in the coming months, replacing the current version.
