Latifa Akharbach, president of the High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HACA) in Morocco, called for renewed trust in media to combat information warfare. She made the remarks during a conference on media and disinformation held in Rabat on July 14, 2026.
Akharbach emphasized that information wars, fueled by digital platforms and foreign interference, threaten democratic processes and social cohesion. She urged media professionals to uphold ethical standards and fact-checking to rebuild public confidence.
The HACA president also highlighted the need for media literacy programs to empower citizens to identify false information. She noted that regulatory bodies must adapt to new challenges posed by artificial intelligence and algorithmic content distribution.
