Morocco is on track to become the first African country to join the governance structure of TV5MONDE, the global French-language television network. The announcement was made during a meeting of the network's board of directors in Paris on May 13, 2026, according to a statement from the Moroccan Ministry of Culture and Communication.
The integration would give Morocco a seat on TV5MONDE's board, alongside current member states including France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, and Quebec. The move is seen as a recognition of Morocco's growing influence in the Francophone media landscape and its commitment to promoting French-language content across Africa.
Morocco's candidacy was supported by several member states and is expected to be formally approved at the next summit of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) scheduled for November 2026. The Moroccan delegation highlighted the country's investments in audiovisual production and its role as a hub for French-language media in North and West Africa.
TV5MONDE, which broadcasts in over 200 countries, has been seeking to diversify its governance to better reflect the global Francophone community. Morocco's inclusion would mark a significant step toward greater African representation in the network's decision-making processes.
