Morocco has set an ambitious goal to capture 1% of the global video game market by 2030, according to statements made by the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, during the Morocco Gaming Expo in Rabat on May 19, 2026. The event, described as the first of its kind in Africa, aims to strengthen the video game industry in the country.
The Morocco Gaming Expo, held from May 19 to 21, 2026, at the International Fair of Rabat, brings together industry professionals, developers, and investors. Bensaid emphasized the expo's role in anchoring the concept of video game development in Morocco and promoting local talent. The event features workshops, conferences, and a competition for game developers.
To achieve the 1% target, the Moroccan government has launched several initiatives, including the creation of a national video game strategy and the establishment of a fund to support startups in the sector. The country also benefits from a young, tech-savvy population and a growing number of specialized training programs in game design and development.
According to industry reports, the global video game market was valued at approximately $200 billion in 2025, with projections for continued growth. Capturing 1% would mean generating around $2 billion in revenue for Morocco, creating thousands of jobs in the process. The initiative aligns with Morocco's broader digital transformation strategy, 'Maroc Digital 2030'.
