Morocco took part in the 38th session of the UNESCO International Coordinating Council of the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme, held in early June 2026 in Hernandarias, Paraguay. The event brought together representatives from member states to discuss global biosphere reserve management and sustainable development.
According to UNESCO, the session focused on reviewing the World Network of Biosphere Reserves, including new nominations and periodic reviews. Morocco's delegation highlighted the country's ongoing efforts to expand its biosphere reserves and integrate local communities in conservation.
Morocco currently has four UNESCO biosphere reserves: Arganeraie, Oasis du Sud Marocain, Intercontinental de la Méditerranée (shared with Spain), and the recently designated Réserve de biosphère de la lagune de Khenifiss. The participation underscores Morocco's commitment to the MAB Programme's goals.
