On June 5, 2026, Morocco hosted a meeting in Rabat titled 'Beyond the 4th UPR Cycle: Strengthening the Process for a Transformative Impact on Human Rights.' The event was organized by the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) in partnership with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
The meeting brought together representatives from government, civil society, and international organizations to discuss the outcomes of Morocco's fourth Universal Periodic Review (UPR) cycle, which took place in January 2022. Morocco accepted 191 of the 256 recommendations made during that review.
Participants highlighted Morocco's role in the UPR since its creation in 2006, including its election to the Human Rights Council for the 2025-2027 term. The event focused on implementing recommendations and ensuring follow-up mechanisms.
According to the CNDH, the meeting aimed to enhance the effectiveness of the UPR process and share best practices. Morocco has been a proponent of the UPR as a tool for human rights progress.
