Morocco has established a complete legal framework and a regulated supply chain for therapeutic cannabis, the director general of the National Agency for the Regulation of Cannabis Activities said on Saturday in Casablanca.
Speaking at a conference, the official stated that the country now has both the regulatory infrastructure and available, controlled products for medical cannabis use. The agency was created following the 2021 law that legalized cannabis for medical and industrial purposes.
Morocco is one of the world's largest producers of illicit cannabis, but the new legal framework aims to transform the sector into a regulated industry. The agency has issued licenses for cultivation, processing, and export.
The announcement comes as several countries in the region and Europe expand access to medical cannabis. Morocco's geographic proximity and established agricultural expertise position it as a potential supplier.
