A Moroccan court has sentenced university professor Mohamed Kailech to two years in prison for his involvement in a diploma-selling scheme in Agadir. The Agadir Court of Appeal delivered the verdict on March 26, 2026, following an investigation into the fraudulent issuance of academic certificates.

The case, which has drawn significant public attention, involved the sale of fake diplomas from Ibn Zohr University. The court also imposed a fine of 20,000 dirhams on Professor Kailech. Several other individuals implicated in the network received varying sentences, including suspended prison terms and fines.

Authorities began investigating the fraud ring after reports emerged of individuals obtaining academic qualifications without completing the required coursework. The scandal has prompted calls for tighter controls and verification processes within Morocco's higher education system to prevent similar incidents.
