On May 12, 2026, Morocco and Nigeria signed a significant agreement to accelerate the development of the Atlantic African Gas Pipeline (AGP). The pipeline, once completed, will transport Nigerian natural gas across West Africa to Morocco and potentially to Europe.
The agreement was signed in Rabat by Moroccan Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Leila Benali and Nigerian Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) Ekperikpe Ekpo. The project is estimated to cost $25 billion and will span approximately 5,600 kilometers.
The AGP is expected to pass through several West African countries, including Benin, Togo, Ghana, and CΓ΄te d'Ivoire. The pipeline aims to provide a reliable energy source for the region and reduce gas flaring in Nigeria.
