Morocco has announced a comprehensive overhaul of its transport system under the Horizon 2030 plan, aiming to modernize infrastructure ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which it will co-host with Spain and Portugal. The initiative includes expanding the high-speed rail network, upgrading urban transit, and improving road and port connectivity.
Key projects include extending the Al Boraq high-speed train line from Casablanca to Marrakech and Agadir, and developing new tram and bus rapid transit systems in cities like Rabat and Tangier. The government has allocated significant funding, with estimates of over $10 billion in investments through public-private partnerships.
The plan also focuses on sustainability, targeting a 30% reduction in carbon emissions from transport by 2030 through electrification and renewable energy integration. Officials emphasize that the overhaul will boost economic growth, create jobs, and enhance regional integration.
