On June 11, 2026, the Moroccan Ministry of Justice and the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed) signed a memorandum of understanding in Rabat to enhance cooperation in alternative dispute resolution and mediation development, according to a ministry statement.
The agreement, signed by Minister of Justice Abdellatif Ouahbi and IOMed President Michel Kallipetis, aims to promote mediation as an effective tool for resolving disputes, reducing court caseloads, and improving access to justice. The MoU outlines joint training programs, awareness campaigns, and the exchange of expertise.
Minister Ouahbi emphasized that mediation aligns with Morocco's judicial reform strategy, which seeks to modernize the justice system and encourage amicable settlements. IOMed President Kallipetis praised Morocco's commitment to alternative dispute resolution and noted the organization's global experience in mediation standards.
The signing ceremony was attended by officials from both entities and representatives of the legal profession. The MoU is part of broader efforts to institutionalize mediation in Morocco, following the adoption of Law 08-05 on mediation in 2022.
