The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) in Morocco has issued a heatwave alert for several regions of the country, effective from Friday, April 17, 2026, through Sunday, April 19, 2026. The agency forecasts a significant rise in temperatures, particularly affecting the interior plains, the southeast, and the southern provinces.
According to the DGM, maximum temperatures are expected to range between 36 and 40 degrees Celsius (97-104°F) in the affected areas. The public, especially vulnerable populations, is advised to take necessary precautions, including staying hydrated and avoiding direct sun exposure during peak heat hours.
This early-season heatwave follows a winter characterized by above-average rainfall in many parts of the country. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely due to the potential health impacts and increased risk of wildfires.
