A traveling citizen deliberation project titled "Le Procès de la conscience" (The Trial of Conscience) is touring multiple cities in Morocco to engage the public on the ethical implications of artificial intelligence. The initiative, organized by the Moroccan Center for Civic Education, aims to gather diverse public perspectives on AI governance through structured debates and participatory theater.

The tour began in Casablanca in early March 2026 and will visit Rabat, Marrakech, Tangier, and Fez through late April. Each event features moderated discussions where citizens deliberate on scenarios involving AI in healthcare, justice, and daily life, examining questions of bias, accountability, and human autonomy.

The project is part of a broader national consultation effort ahead of anticipated AI regulation discussions in the Moroccan parliament. Organizers state the collected citizen testimonies and recommendations will be compiled into a report for policymakers by June 2026.

Similar civic deliberation models on technology ethics have been conducted in several countries, including France and Canada. The Moroccan iteration adapts the format to local cultural and legal contexts, focusing on how emerging technologies intersect with societal values.
