Morocco is experiencing a severe heatwave from Saturday, July 20, to Monday, July 22, 2026, with temperatures expected to reach up to 46°C in several provinces, according to the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM). The affected areas include the provinces of Tata, Assa-Zag, and Smara, among others in the southern and eastern regions.
The DGM has issued a red alert for extreme heat, warning residents to take precautions against heatstroke and dehydration. The heatwave is attributed to a hot air mass from the Sahara, which is pushing temperatures well above seasonal averages.
Local authorities have advised people to stay indoors during peak hours, drink plenty of water, and avoid strenuous activities. Emergency services are on standby to respond to heat-related incidents.
