Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Residents Abroad, Nasser Bourita, was received in Niamey by Niger's head of state, General Abdourahamane Tiani, in a diplomatic visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
The meeting focused on reinforcing cooperation ties between Morocco and Niger across multiple sectors. Bourita conveyed a message from King Mohammed VI to General Tiani, underscoring the importance Rabat places on its relationship with Niamey.
Morocco has maintained active diplomatic engagement with Sahel countries, including Niger, despite the political changes that followed the July 2023 coup that brought General Tiani to power. Rabat has pursued a pragmatic approach to relations with the military-led governments in the region.
The visit reflects Morocco's broader strategy of deepening its presence and partnerships across Africa, particularly in West and Central Africa, as part of its South-South cooperation policy championed by King Mohammed VI.
