Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) president Fouzi Lekjaa has publicly expressed confidence in Morocco's bid to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The statement comes as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) prepares to make a final decision on the hosting rights for the tournament.
The bid process has been complicated by a legal dispute. Algeria, which had also bid for the 2025 tournament before withdrawing, filed a complaint with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) challenging CAF's procedures. This has delayed the final announcement of the host nation.
Lekjaa defended Morocco's candidacy, citing the country's existing infrastructure and proven track record of hosting major international football events. He emphasized that the Moroccan dossier is complete and meets all of CAF's technical requirements.
CAF initially stripped Guinea of the 2025 hosting rights in 2022 due to infrastructure concerns. A decision on the new host is now imminent, with Morocco considered a leading contender alongside a potential joint bid from Nigeria and Benin.
