Morocco has issued a strong condemnation of the recent drone attacks targeting the Barakah nuclear power plant in the United Arab Emirates. In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rabat expressed its solidarity with the UAE and denounced any acts that threaten the safety of nuclear facilities.
The Barakah plant, located in the Al Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi, is the first nuclear power plant in the Arab world. It began commercial operations in 2020 and has been a target of attacks by Houthi rebels in Yemen, who have claimed responsibility for drone strikes on the facility.
Morocco's condemnation aligns with its longstanding position against threats to critical infrastructure and regional stability. The kingdom called on the international community to take a firm stance against such attacks, which could have catastrophic consequences for the environment and public health.
The UAE has reported that the attacks were intercepted and did not cause any damage or casualties. However, the incident has raised concerns about the security of nuclear facilities in conflict zones.
