Morocco condemned the attack on the Barakah nuclear power plant in the United Arab Emirates, as stated by Ambassador Azzeddine Farhane, Morocco's permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, during an extraordinary session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors.
The attack, which occurred in January 2022, targeted the Barakah plant, the first nuclear power plant in the Arab world. The UAE has not reported any significant damage or radiation leaks from the incident.
Ambassador Farhane emphasized the need to protect nuclear facilities from any form of aggression, citing international law and IAEA resolutions. He called for restraint and adherence to peaceful conflict resolution.
The IAEA Board of Governors meeting addressed the security of nuclear installations in conflict zones, following the attack on Barakah and ongoing concerns about the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in Ukraine.
