Morocco's prosecutor in Tetouan has initiated legal proceedings against 25 individuals in connection with the mass crossing of migrants into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta on July 30, 2026. The charges include organizing irregular crossings and transporting migrants, according to official statements.
The mass influx, which saw hundreds of migrants swim or use makeshift rafts to reach Ceuta, prompted a coordinated response from Spanish and Moroccan authorities. Moroccan security forces have since increased patrols along the coastal border.
The 25 suspects face charges related to human smuggling and illegal migration facilitation. If convicted, they could face significant prison sentences under Moroccan law.
This incident highlights ongoing migratory pressures at the EU's southern border. Both Spain and Morocco have pledged to enhance cooperation to prevent such events in the future.
