Morocco has become the largest African financial contributor to the international French-language television network TV5Monde, according to a statement from the Moroccan Ministry of Culture. The country increased its annual contribution to €2.5 million, surpassing previous African donors.
The decision was formalized during a meeting between Moroccan officials and TV5Monde representatives in Rabat on May 12, 2026. The funding is designated to support the network's programming in Africa and promote French-language content across the continent.
TV5Monde, which broadcasts in over 200 countries, has been seeking to diversify its funding sources. Morocco's contribution represents a significant boost to the network's African operations, which include news, cultural, and educational programming.
This move aligns with Morocco's broader strategy to strengthen cultural and linguistic ties within the Francophonie. The country has been an active member of the International Organisation of the Francophonie (OIF) and hosts several regional media initiatives.
