According to the latest data from Eurostat, the European Union's statistical office, citizens of Morocco were the second-largest group to acquire citizenship of an EU member state in 2024. The data, released in March 2026, covers acquisitions of citizenship in the 27 EU member states.

The report states that Syrian citizens were the largest group, with approximately 101,400 people obtaining EU citizenship. Moroccan citizens followed, with about 98,300 acquisitions. Turkish citizens were the third-largest group, with around 49,900 new citizenships granted.

In total, nearly 1.0 million people acquired citizenship of an EU member state in 2024. The largest numbers of new citizens were recorded by Germany, Spain, Italy, and France. The data reflects ongoing migration patterns and naturalization processes within the bloc.

Acquisition of citizenship typically requires several years of legal residence and meeting specific integration criteria, which vary by member state. The figures represent a formal change in legal status and are distinct from statistics on immigration or residence permits.
