Abdelwahab Doukkali, one of Morocco's most beloved singers and composers, passed away on May 8, 2026, in Rabat at the age of 85, according to his family and Moroccan media reports.
Born in 1941 in Casablanca, Doukkali began his career in the 1960s and became known for his distinctive voice and patriotic songs. He composed and performed classics such as 'Maktoub' and 'Ya Zahrat Al-Mada'en,' which remain popular across the Arab world.
Doukkali received numerous honors, including the National Order of Merit from King Mohammed VI in 2014. His death prompted tributes from Moroccan officials and artists, who praised his contributions to Moroccan music and culture.
He is survived by his wife and three children. Funeral prayers were held on May 9 at the As-Sunna Mosque in Rabat.
