Moroccan rapper Souhaib Qabli has been sentenced to eight months in prison for social media posts deemed critical of Morocco's normalization of relations with Israel. The Casablanca Court of First Instance convicted him on charges including insulting a constitutional institution and incitement to protest.
The case stems from videos and posts Qabli made on platforms like TikTok and Instagram in late 2025, where he expressed opposition to the normalization agreement. His arrest in February 2026 drew attention from human rights groups, who criticized the use of criminal law to punish free expression.
Morocco established diplomatic ties with Israel in late 2020 as part of the U.S.-brokered Abraham Accords. The move remains politically sensitive within the country. Qabli's sentencing highlights ongoing tensions between state authority and freedom of speech in the kingdom.
