Moroccan police have conducted a significant anti-drug operation, resulting in the arrest of 40 individuals and the seizure of approximately 1.3 tons of cannabis resin. The operation, which took place in the northern region of the country, targeted an international drug trafficking network.
According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the suspects were apprehended in coordinated raids across several cities. The seized narcotics, equivalent to 13 quintals, were intended for international export. The police also confiscated vehicles and communication equipment used by the network.
The bust is part of Morocco's ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking, particularly in the Rif region, a known cannabis-producing area. Authorities stated the operation successfully dismantled a major cell involved in the production and distribution of narcotics.
Morocco remains a key transit and source country for cannabis resin, primarily destined for European markets. This seizure underscores the scale of the illicit trade and the continued law enforcement challenges in the region.
