Namibia's Minister of Works and Transport, Veikko Nekundi, has ordered an investigation into allegations of tribal bias in recruitment practices at the Roads Authority. The directive, issued on April 24, 2026, follows complaints about hiring disparities within the state-owned enterprise.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Works and Transport, Nekundi expressed concern over reports that certain ethnic groups were being favored in the recruitment process. The investigation will examine whether the Roads Authority's hiring practices comply with the country's labor laws and constitutional provisions against discrimination.
The Roads Authority has pledged full cooperation with the investigation. In a brief response, the authority's spokesperson stated that they welcome the opportunity to clarify their recruitment procedures and ensure transparency.
This is not the first time tribal bias has been raised in Namibia's public sector. Similar allegations have been made against other state-owned enterprises in recent years, prompting calls for more robust oversight and enforcement of equal opportunity policies.
