Microsoft has announced the general availability of the Azure Copilot Migration Agent, an AI-powered tool designed to streamline the planning phase for moving workloads to the cloud. The agent, integrated into the Azure portal, uses generative AI to automate the discovery and assessment of on-premises servers, databases, and applications.
According to Microsoft, the agent can analyze IT environments and generate detailed migration recommendations, including cost estimates and technical readiness reports. This aims to reduce the manual effort traditionally required in the assessment stage of cloud adoption.
The tool is part of the broader Azure Migrate service and leverages the Azure OpenAI Service. It is currently available in public preview, with Microsoft stating it supports assessments for migration to Azure Virtual Machines and Azure VMware Solution.
