Three-time U.S. Olympian Meghan Duggan has been named general manager of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) expansion team in Hamilton, Ontario, effective immediately. Duggan leaves her role as player development coach with the NHL's New Jersey Devils to take on the new position.
The announcement was made on May 21, 2026, by the PWHL. Duggan, a former captain of the U.S. women's national team, won three Olympic medals (gold in 2018, silver in 2010 and 2014) and seven world championships. She retired from playing in 2021.
Duggan joined the Devils in 2022 as a player development coach, focusing on prospects and skill development. Her move to the PWHL marks a return to women's hockey leadership. The Hamilton expansion team is set to begin play in the 2026-27 season, joining the league's six existing franchises.
βI am thrilled to lead this new chapter for women's hockey in Hamilton,β Duggan said in a statement. βBuilding a team from the ground up is an incredible opportunity, and I can't wait to get started.β
The PWHL, which launched its inaugural season in 2024, has rapidly expanded. Hamilton becomes the league's seventh team, with plans for further growth. Duggan's hiring is seen as a major step in establishing the franchise's identity.
