The project to connect 105 hamlets to the national electricity grid in Tanzania's Mbeya Region has reached 93% completion, according to a statement from the Rural Energy Agency (REA). The initiative is expected to provide power to more than 3,400 residents in the area.
Members of the REA Board of Directors recently toured the project sites to assess progress. They expressed satisfaction with the work done so far and urged contractors to complete the remaining connections by the end of the current fiscal year.
The electrification effort is part of Tanzania's broader Rural Electrification Master Plan, which aims to increase energy access in remote areas. Once fully operational, the project will support local economic activities, including small-scale businesses and agricultural processing.
Residents in the targeted hamlets have welcomed the development, noting that access to electricity will improve their quality of life and reduce reliance on expensive and environmentally harmful alternatives like kerosene lamps and diesel generators.
