Kenneth Iwamasa, the personal assistant of late 'Friends' star Matthew Perry, was sentenced to 41 months in federal prison on Wednesday for his role in the actor's death from a ketamine overdose in October 2023. The sentencing was announced by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California.
Iwamasa, 59, pleaded guilty in August 2024 to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine causing death. Court documents revealed that he injected Perry with multiple doses of ketamine on the day of his death, including a fatal dose administered in the actor's hot tub at his Los Angeles home.
The case involved five defendants, including two doctors and a woman known as the 'Ketamine Queen.' All have pleaded guilty to charges related to providing Perry with the anesthetic drug, which is used for depression treatment but was abused recreationally. Perry, 54, was found unresponsive in his pool on October 28, 2023.
Prosecutors stated that Iwamasa admitted to injecting Perry with ketamine without medical training, ignoring warnings about the drug's dangers. The sentence is part of a broader crackdown on illegal distribution of ketamine in the entertainment industry.
