KUALA LUMPUR: Major partners within Malaysia's unity government have pledged their continued support until the end of the term, regardless of the outcomes in the upcoming state elections, according to a senior figure in its largest coalition, Pakatan Harapan (PH).
Selangor Chief Minister Amirudin Shari, who is also a top leader in PH, said on Tuesday that the coalition partners have agreed to maintain the unity government until the end of its term, despite ongoing disputes over seat allocations for the upcoming state polls. The statement was made during a press conference in Shah Alam.
The unity government, formed after the 2022 general election, includes PH, Barisan Nasional (BN), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), and several other parties. The state elections are expected to be held in six states, including Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu, by mid-2023.
Amirudin emphasized that the commitment to serve the full term is a sign of political maturity and stability, despite differences in seat negotiations. He added that the focus remains on governance and development, not internal conflicts.
