A new poll conducted by Survation on behalf of the campaign group 38 Degrees has found that a majority of voters in the Makerfield constituency would be less likely to vote for a candidate who has posted offensive content on social media. The survey, which polled 518 adults in the area, indicates that 55% of respondents said such posts would make them less likely to support a candidate.

The poll, conducted between June 5 and June 7, 2026, also found that 28% of respondents said offensive posts would make no difference to their vote, while 17% said they were unsure. The margin of error for the survey is plus or minus 4.3 percentage points.

38 Degrees, a progressive campaign group, commissioned the poll as part of its broader effort to highlight the importance of online behavior in political campaigns. The group has previously called for stricter rules on social media conduct for candidates.

The findings come ahead of the next general election, expected to be held by 2029. Makerfield is a constituency in Greater Manchester, currently represented by Labour MP Yvonne Fovargue, who has announced she will step down at the next election.
