VILNIUS — China appears inclined to negotiate on normalizing relations with Lithuania, the chairman of the Seimas foreign affairs committee said on Wednesday after a briefing by the foreign minister.
“We have heard the current information regarding normalization,” said Žygimantas Pavilionis, chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, following a closed-door briefing by Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis on July 1, 2026. Pavilionis did not provide specific details about the potential talks.
Relations between Lithuania and China have been strained since 2021, when Lithuania allowed Taiwan to open a representative office in Vilnius. China downgraded diplomatic ties and imposed trade restrictions in response.
The Lithuanian foreign ministry has not officially commented on the reported openness from Beijing. The development comes amid ongoing European Union efforts to mediate the dispute.
