Kosovo's Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) faces deepening internal divisions after Lumir Abdixhiku was reconfirmed as party leader, according to a warning from party official and former mayor of Vushtrri, Xhafer Qarri.
Qarri expressed concern that the party is fracturing, citing disagreements over leadership and direction. The reconfirmation, which took place at a party assembly, has not healed existing rifts but rather intensified them, Qarri said in a statement.
The LDK, one of Kosovo's oldest political parties, has been grappling with internal strife for years. Abdixhiku, who has led the party since 2021, faced challenges from within the party ranks, but managed to secure another term.
Qarri's comments highlight the ongoing tension between the party's old guard and newer leadership, as the LDK seeks to maintain its relevance in Kosovo's political landscape.
