Nigerian rapper and reality TV star Laycon has stated that the prize money he won from Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) was instrumental in saving his mother's life. He made the revelation during an interview on the 'Echo Room' podcast.
Laycon, whose real name is Olamilekan Agbeleshe, won the Season 5 'Lockdown' edition of BBNaija in 2020, taking home a grand prize of 85 million Naira (approximately $200,000 at the time). In the podcast interview, he explained that his mother was critically ill before his entry into the show, and the financial windfall allowed him to afford the necessary medical care for her.
The reality star's comments highlight the significant life-changing impact such competition wins can have for contestants and their families in Nigeria. Laycon has since built a successful music and entertainment career following his victory.
