The initiative aims to reduce new infections and deaths from hepatitis B and C, which are major causes of liver disease and cancer in Nigeria. According to the World Health Organization, Nigeria has one of the highest burdens of viral hepatitis in Africa.
The roadmap outlines strategies for prevention, testing, and treatment, with a focus on community engagement and healthcare worker training. The state government plans to collaborate with federal agencies, international partners, and local health organizations to achieve the 2030 target.
