Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has denied media reports claiming he submitted the name of the State House of Assembly Speaker, Yakubu Salihu-Danladi, to President Bola Tinubu as a preferred successor for the 2027 gubernatorial election. The governor's spokesperson, Rafiu Ajakaye, issued a statement on March 31, 2026, describing the reports as false and misleading.

Ajakaye clarified that Governor AbdulRazaq has not anointed any candidate for the 2027 election and remains focused on his current governance duties. He urged the public and media to disregard the speculation, emphasizing that the governor respects the democratic process for selecting candidates within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The denial comes amid ongoing political discussions regarding the succession plan in Kwara State as Governor AbdulRazaq's second term approaches its conclusion. The governor is currently serving his second term in office, which is set to end in 2027.
