In a historic moment for kosher cuisine, Israeli chef Raz Shabtai's Miami restaurant Mutra has been awarded a Michelin star, making it the first kosher restaurant to receive this prestigious honor. The announcement was made during a livestreamed Michelin ceremony on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
As golden confetti fell, Shabtai broke down in tears and was embraced by his cheering staff. The restaurant, which opened in 2024, serves modern Israeli cuisine with kosher certification. Michelin inspectors praised Mutra for its "creative and refined dishes that honor Jewish culinary traditions."
Mutra is located in the Miami Design District and has been noted for its tasting menu featuring ingredients like local Florida produce and imported Israeli spices. The Michelin Guide first expanded to Miami in 2022, and this year's ceremony recognized several new stars across the city.
Shabtai, who previously worked at acclaimed restaurants in Tel Aviv and New York, said the star is a validation of kosher fine dining. "This is for everyone who believed that kosher food can be world-class," he said during the ceremony.
