Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has begun rolling out Afya Apex, a comprehensive digital health information system, marking a shift from paper-based records to electronic management. The hospital announced the launch in a press statement on 3 May 2026, highlighting the system's potential to streamline patient registration, appointment scheduling, and medical record keeping.
According to the statement, Afya Apex is designed to reduce patient wait times and improve data accuracy. However, hospital officials acknowledged that the initial rollout has experienced technical glitches, including system slowdowns and data entry errors. A KNH spokesperson stated that the hospital is working with the system vendor to resolve these issues promptly.
The digital overhaul is part of a broader government initiative to modernize healthcare infrastructure in Kenya. KNH, as the country's largest referral hospital, is expected to serve as a model for other facilities. The hospital has not provided a timeline for full implementation but emphasized that patient care remains the top priority during the transition.
