Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island emitted a grayish ash plume that rose 700 meters above the summit crater on Wednesday morning, July 1, 2026, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The ash emission occurred at 7:32 a.m. and lasted for about three minutes, Phivolcs said in an advisory. The agency noted that the event was a brief ash emission, not a major eruption.
Phivolcs reminded the public that entry into the 4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is strictly prohibited due to the risk of sudden explosions, rockfalls, and landslides. Residents in nearby communities were advised to take precautions against ashfall.
Kanlaon Volcano remains under Alert Level 1, indicating low-level unrest. Phivolcs continues to monitor the volcano for any changes in activity.
