Sidi Kaouki is a small coastal village in Morocco, located about 25 kilometers south of Essaouira. It is named after a Muslim saint, Sidi Kaouki, whose shrine overlooks the beach. The village has become a popular destination for surfers, drawn by its consistent waves and laid-back atmosphere.
According to local lore, Sidi Kaouki was a holy man who lived in the area centuries ago. His whitewashed mausoleum sits on a hill above the beach, and visitors often pay their respects before hitting the water. The village itself remains relatively undeveloped, with a handful of guesthouses, surf schools, and small restaurants.
The beach at Sidi Kaouki is known for its strong winds and powerful waves, making it more suitable for intermediate and advanced surfers. The best conditions are typically in the winter months, when the swell is larger.
