The Kaduna State Government has trained 2,000 local vigilantes as part of efforts to boost community security, according to a statement from the state's Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs. The training, which took place in early 2026, aims to equip participants with skills to address security challenges in rural and urban areas.
Governor Uba Sani emphasized the importance of community-led security initiatives, noting that the vigilantes will work alongside formal security agencies to protect lives and property. The program includes modules on conflict resolution, surveillance, and legal procedures.
This initiative follows a series of security incidents in Kaduna, including banditry and kidnapping, which have prompted state authorities to strengthen local response mechanisms. The trained vigilantes are expected to be deployed across all 23 local government areas.
