Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts is attached to star in and produce Sony Pictures' adaptation of Katy Hays' forthcoming novel Home Economics, according to a report from Deadline Hollywood on May 22, 2026. The project is being developed under Sony's 3000 Pictures banner.
Roberts will produce alongside her long-time partners Lisa Roberts Gillan and Marisa Yeres Gill through their production company, Red Om Films. The novel, which has not yet been released, is described as a thriller centered on a family's dark secrets.
No director or additional cast members have been announced. The project is in early development stages. Katy Hays is known for her previous novel The Cloisters, a New York Times bestseller.
