Alvin and the Chipmunks are set to return to the big screen. Big Shot Pictures has closed a joint venture with Bagdasarian Productions, which owns the property, to produce a new film. The movie is targeting a 2028 release date, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter on July 16, 2026.
Big Shot Pictures was founded by Brian Robbins, who is also the CEO of Paramount Pictures. The deal gives Big Shot a 25% stake in the venture, with Bagdasarian Productions retaining majority control. The new film will be a reboot of the franchise, which previously saw four live-action/CGI hybrid films released between 2007 and 2015.
No director or cast has been announced yet. The project is in early development, with a script expected to be written soon. The original Chipmunks characters—Alvin, Simon, and Theodore—were created by Ross Bagdasarian Sr. in 1958.
