BEIRUT — Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon on Saturday killed nine people, including three members of the Lebanese military, according to the Lebanese army and state media. The strikes occurred days after a ceasefire deal was reached between Israel and Hezbollah.
An airstrike hit a vehicle in the town of Qabrikha, killing three Lebanese soldiers and two civilians, the Lebanese army said. Additional strikes in other areas killed four more people, including a Hezbollah fighter, according to security sources. The Israeli military said it targeted Hezbollah positions in response to violations of the ceasefire.
The ceasefire, brokered by the United States and France, took effect on June 3, 2026, aiming to end months of cross-border fighting. However, both sides have accused each other of violations since the truce began.
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned the strikes, calling them a violation of the ceasefire and international law. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) urged restraint and called for an investigation into the incident.
